Peninsula Music Camp

Summer Musicianship Classes in Orchestral Training & Chamber Music
for students 6-18.

The friendly and supportive atmosphere of Peninsula Music Camp welcomes musicians to enroll at any proficiency level and encourages individual musical growth through innovative classes designed for discovery, learning, challenge, progress, and success. The Peninsula Music Camp accepts instrumentalists enrolled in their school program (if offered at applicant's school) who have studied an orchestral instrument one or more years.

Financial Aid and Work Scholarships are available.

 

6 sessions of music camp will be offered in 2008:

Session 1 - Discover Chamber Music
Session 2 - Advanced Chamber Music
Session 3 - Sunrise Symphony
Session 4 - Summer Symphony & Chamber Ensembles
Session 5 - Just Strings! Level 1

Session 6 - Just Strings! Level 2

Session 1 - Discover Chamber Music

Daily Classes:
Discover 1 -July 7 - 11, 2:30-5:30 PM
Discover 2 -July 7 - 11, 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Students may bring a sack dinner and stay up for both, or sign up for one or the other.
Informal Concerts: July 11, 4:00 PM (Discover 1) and 7:30 PM (Discover 2 and for kids enrolled in both)
Location: John Gill School, Redwood City
Fee: $225 for one camp, or $325 for both (apply by June 3)

For intermediate and advanced string & woodwind players. Introductory classes in chamber music - excellent repertoire that will not be experienced in the large orchestra setting.

Session 2- Advanced Chamber Music

Daily Classes: July 7 - 11, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Concert:
July 11, 7:30 PM
Location: John Gill School, Redwood City
Fee: $225
(apply by June 3)

An intensive week of rehearsing, coaching, and performance of chamber music masterworks - for experienced musicians who play string, woodwind, and brass instruments. Limited number of pianists accepted by audition.

Faculty: Mitchell Sardou Klein and Patricia Whaley.


Session 3 - Sunrise Symphony

Daily Classes: July 14 - 18, 9:00 PM - 12 Noon
Informal Concert: July 18, 11:30 AM
Location: TBA
Fee: $150 (apply by July 1)

A beginning orchestra experience for musicians with limited or no previous ensemble experience. For string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players.

Faculty: Sara Salsbury, Troy Davis, Don Couch, Peter Thielen, and Guest Artists.

Session 4 - Summer Symphony & Chamber Ensembles

Classes: July 14-18, 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Informal Concert: July 18, 4:30 PM
Location: John Gill School
Fee: $200
(apply by July 1)

Challenging orchestral repertoire (classics & pops!) and chamber ensembles for intermediate and advanced level players of string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments with four or more years of lessons and previous ensemble experience. The camp will also include the Festive Brass and Percussion Ensemble as well as Classic String and Woodwind Ensembles.

Session 5 - Just Strings, level 1

Daily Classes: July 21-25, 2:30 - 5:30 PM
Informal Concert:
July 25, 4:45 PM
Location: John Gill School, Redwood City
Fee: $150
(apply by July 10)

A beginning string orchestra for players with one or two years of school or private lessons. Classes will include basic theory lessons. This class will also accept students transferring to viola or bass. An instrument will be provided for interested students. More viola and bass players are needed in all our ensembles. Get started this summer!

Session 6 - Just Strings, level 2

Daily Classes: July 21-25, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Informal Concert:
July 25, 8:00 PM
Location: John Gill School, Redwood City
Fee: $150
(apply by July 10)


For string players with three or more years of experience. Develop your leadership and sight-reading skills while learning new string music and classic repertoire. Chamber music will also be introduced. Students transferring to viola and string bass may also attend this session.
